Getting Chatty!! My Ironman Chattanooga Race Report

Hobbling around today, is just that nagging reminder to get this race report in the books. As many of you know me, I like to write a short, sweet race report and hopefully find odd places for humour as well as what I learned in this particular journey. So here goes y’all…   Training I am adding “Training” as a separate paragraph, because I have been told in my triathlon career that it’s more about the journey. Oh yeah, the journey – this time it was quite a rocky one. Why […]

The Mammogram Poem

[Anonymous] (This poem has been around for awhile, and in honour of October being breast awareness month, I thought it may be a great time to repost) For years and years they told me, Be careful of your breasts. Don’t ever squeeze or bruise them. And give them monthly tests. So I heeded all their warnings, And protected them by law. Guarded them very carefully, And I always wore my bra. After 30 years of astute care, My gyno, Dr. Pruitt, Said I should get a Mammogram. “O.K,” I said, […]

Knoxville Rev 3 — 70.3 Race report

It has taken me a few days to get my thoughts together for this one – but hey, not only does one get lost in time after an endurance event, but it also was probably the hardest 70.3 I have done to date. Although nothing compares to Ironman, this race had me concerned that it was meant to be only an Ironman training race, yet it totally kicked my butt!! I arrived at this even after some hardcore bike rides behind me. After joining Atlanta Tri Club (ATC) I got […]

Letter to my Momma – Jarro Katz

FROM : Jarro Katz May 17th, 2014 Hey PuppyMomma, I have been sittin here surrounded by all theese complaneing miserable dogs and so I decided to rite this lettr to you.  Man, you get a room full of dogs, and it quickly becomes a therapy session.  Man I sure don’t want to end up like these three bitches I met.  The first one was a French Poodle and I could not understand one word this uppity bitch said.  You didn’t teach me French. The second was a German Shepard and […]

Coconut Oil in Review – Ilana Katz MS, RD, CSSD

I have been asked my opinion on coconut oils more than anything else in the recent past. I guess the population has gone cuckoo about coconuts. The only fact that stayed clear to me about coconut oil from school days is it is one the most saturated in fat sources that exists (as high as 90% actually). Therefore, how is it possibly a good fat? Granted, school years are way back when, and it is time to reeducate myself on coconut, which is now considered a readily available source of […]

THE OTHER HALF

Venice, Florida REVOULTION 3    70.3 Race report                            ILANA KATZ MS, RD, CSSD =============================== Last month I posted a 70.3 race report for Amelia Island (DRC sports). I promised to write one for the Venice (rev 3) 70.3 exactly one month later. I have entitled it “the other half” because this was the year that two halves are as best as I can get to one Full.  The reason was a good one, his name is Jarro Katz, now 10 months old and stunningly handsome. Yes, he needed more training than […]

Amelia Island 70.3 Race report – October 2013

So again, I sit here with writer’s block. Sound familiar? To me it is unusual, so I went back and reread my Amelia Island race report from 2011 to reinspire my blogging. And oh boy, was that a totally different experience.  (http://192.185.164.20/1574/about-ilana/you-are-as-good-as-your-last-race/ ) Quick recap and comparison In 2011 Ocean was rough versus 2013 ocean was a pure imitation of a lake  2011 was Dori’s inaugural triathlon. I was able to be an aerodynamic speed racer (well speed racer is relative, but compared to MY other racers, I was a […]

A WEEK IN THE GYM

For my 40th birthday this year, my wife (the dear) purchased a week of personal training at the local health club for me.  Although I am still in great shape since playing on my college football team 25 years ago, I decided it would be a good idea to go ahead and give it a try. Called the club and made my reservations with a personal trainer named Belinda, who identified herself as a 26-year-old aerobics instructor and model for athletic clothing and swimwear. My wife seemed pleased with […]

WEIGHING IN ON WEIGHING IN.

ILANA KATZ MS,RD, CSSD   Is your scale the boss of you? Really, are you allowing this unforgiving, inanimate demon to constantly determine your moods? I ask this of many clients almost daily, and believe it or not, I get a defensive nod, and a “yes, of course!” Why people? Jokes aside, I do understand why, since I too have known to be a slave to a scale. Oh yes, and shamefully, I too allow that scaly, dumb thing determine my self worth. But I am done… I am ready […]

IRONMAN FLORIDA 2012 Race Report

My second IM experience parallels my masochistic path toward  consumer-driven, self-actualization in three sports that I have publicly declared hatred for at several times in my life. After Lake Placid (http://192.185.164.20/1430/endurance-sports-nutrition/ironman-lake-placid-2011-race-report/), I was hooked, or should I say sucked in by the M-dot bragging rights – I conquered a couple of fears in Lake Placid, but more fears manifested with the 2.4 mile ocean swim (especially after Gulf Coast tri  (http://192.185.164.20/1814/about-ilana/swim-in-a-tumbler-bike-in-a-hurricane-run-in-hell-a-love-story/) A HUGE hurdle to overcome – I had a paralyzing fear of  Sharks… snakes… minnows… drowning… Then I too […]
